Đắk Lắk Nears Launch of Western Highlands' Largest 2,500-Head Great-Grandparent Pig Farm

Đắk Lắk, Vietnam – The DHN Đắk Lắk High-Tech Livestock Application Zone, a massive project set to become the largest pig farming operation in the Central Highlands, is nearing completion and preparing for launch.

Construction of this ambitious complex officially commenced in late September 2020 in Ea M'Droh commune, Cư M'Gar district. The project is a joint venture between Hung Nhon Group of Vietnam and De Heus Group of the Netherlands, spanning nearly 200 hectares.

With a total investment projected at approximately $60 million USD (equivalent to 1,500 billion VND) for the 2019-2025 period, this facility will house 2,500 great-grandparent pigs, marking a significant advancement for the region's agricultural sector.

Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon Group's Board of Directors, announced that the DHN Đắk Lắk High-Tech Livestock Application Zone is now 90% complete after nearly a year of construction.

Despite the complex challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly hampered construction conditions, the investor implemented numerous solutions to accelerate progress. Their clear objective was to quickly bring the great-grandparent pig farm into operation, thereby meeting the market's demand for high-quality, disease-free breeding pigs. Modern machinery and technology, imported from Europe, have already arrived and cleared customs, now being transported to the project site for installation.

Mr. Vu Manh Hung stated that the project includes a great-grandparent and grandparent pig breeding farm, importing stock directly from the Netherlands, spanning approximately 45 hectares.

In addition, the complex features a 30-hectare livestock farming area, a 15-hectare pork slaughterhouse and organic fertilizer production plant, and a 20-hectare administration and support services area. Approximately 25 hectares are allocated for roads and technical infrastructure, with the remaining area dedicated to cultivation, green spaces, and various other related facilities.

The farming process at the complex will fully embrace Industry 4.0 technology, with automation and adherence to 349 GlobalGAP standards. Great-grandparent (GGP) and grandparent (GP) pig breeds will be meticulously selected and directly imported from the Netherlands. This ensures the production of grandparent (GP) and parent stock (PS) pigs with excellent genetic quality and high reproductive performance

Once operational, the DHN Đắk Lắk High-Tech Agricultural Complex will supply approximately 25,000 high-quality parent pigs and gilts annually to the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam markets, according to Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon Group.

The two investing corporations, Hung Nhon and De Heus, aim to establish Đắk Lắk as a leader in high-tech agriculture. Beyond providing disease-free pig and chicken breeding stock to the Central Highlands and Southern provinces, the project will also serve as Vietnam's first pilot disease-free zone developed to international standards.

    Significant Investment in Wastewater Treatment

A crucial component of this advanced complex is a nearly 40 billion VND investment in a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system, underscoring the project's commitment to environmental sustainability and biosecurity.

One of the project's standout features is its use of the world's most modern machinery and equipment for wastewater and environmental treatment. This system ensures that treated wastewater discharged into the environment meets Class A standards—as per QCVN 62-MT:2016/BTNMT on livestock wastewater.

Wastewater achieving Class A will then be reused for production and livestock operations, maximizing water conservation and minimizing external discharge. The investment in this advanced wastewater treatment and environmental monitoring system alone amounts to nearly 40 billion VND.

The investor is also committed to creating 250 to 300 job opportunities for ethnic minority residents in Đắk Lắk province, training a skilled workforce in modern livestock farming technology for the region.

"We expect this livestock complex will officially begin supplying clean, high-quality international standard pig breeds to the Vietnamese market by the end of 2021," Mr. Hung stated.

Gia Lai Approves DHN High-Tech Livestock Farm Project

While the DHN Đắk Lắk project is nearing operation, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee recently signed a decision approving the investment policy and investor for the DHN Gia Lai High-Tech Livestock Farm project. This new venture has a total investment of 380 billion VND.

This project is also a joint investment between Hung Nhon Group and De Heus Group. Its goal is to raise pigs and produce breeding stock, combined with afforestation and forest care, creating a biosecurity buffer zone for the project.

The DHN Gia Lai High-Tech Livestock Farm will span approximately 71.5 hectares with a designed capacity to import and care for 2,500 great-grandparent pigs for breeding. Once fully operational, the project will supply both breeding pigs and commercial pork to the market.

This project has an operational lifespan of 50 years and a total capital investment of 1,000 billion VND, equivalent to $50 million USD. Construction is expected to commence on December 4, 2021.
