 On the morning of May 21st, in Pleiku City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), in collaboration with the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, organized the "Connecting Central Highlands" forum. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of MARD, leaders from the five Central Highlands provinces, and several agricultural businesses investing in the region, including De Heus and Hung Nhon.

Speaking at the forum, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien stated that the Central Highlands has a total agricultural land area of nearly 5.5 million hectares, accounting for approximately 16% of the country's total land area, with agricultural land making up over 91% of that. He noted that the region is also one of Vietnam's major centers for large-scale agricultural commodity production, boasting abundant output and diverse types of agricultural products, closely linked with processing industries and eco-tourism development.

The Central Highlands' favorable climate supports the development of high-quality, high-yield, and competitive fruit trees, industrial crops, timber trees, and medicinal plants, such as coffee, pepper, avocado, durian, rubber, cassava, timber, and Ngoc Linh ginseng. The region also promotes large-scale livestock farming and cold-water aquaculture. Notably, the Central Highlands leads the nation in the production of coffee, pepper, avocado, and passion fruit. As a result, the region's agriculture has continuously developed by leveraging its potential and regional advantages, adapting to climate change, and aligning with market mechanisms.

At this year's "Connecting Central Highlands" forum, delegates extensively discussed boosting both domestic and international connections to expand the consumption market for Central Highlands agricultural products and enhance their value when participating in the global value chain. Concurrently, they aimed to promote the application of science and technology, especially high technology and digital technology, in the production, processing, consumption, and coordination of inter-regional and inter-provincial agricultural and rural economic development activities.

Representing Dak Nong province, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated that in the coming period, Dak Nong province will accelerate agricultural restructuring to increase added value and promote the development of advantageous crops. Simultaneously, the province will boost the application of high technology in production, strongly develop the collective economy, and focus investment on agricultural infrastructure development.

Mr. Kpa Thuyen, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, proposed that central ministries and agencies invite and connect partners and businesses to invest in Gia Lai. The aim is to establish and develop production areas for Gia Lai's key agricultural products, ensuring they meet the technical barriers and regulations of international consumer markets for export. Concurrently, he requested support for Gia Lai in developing a logistics system for agricultural products (from production, preliminary processing, and processing to export) to help Gia Lai's strong agricultural commodities quickly and deeply penetrate international markets.

"Gia Lai commits to creating favorable conditions for investors to benefit from preferential policies, facilitating linkages and sustainable development of raw material sources for processing and export, and enabling investors to continue expanding their investment scale to achieve the highest efficiency," stated Mr. Kpa Thuyen.

Representing the investors at the forum, Mr. Johan van den Ban, General Director of De Heus Vietnam, stated that the objective of collaborating to invest in and build the aforementioned high-tech agricultural complex projects is to establish the Central Highlands as a disease-free zone, producing high-quality agricultural products through a closed-loop chain. This initiative aims to shape the Central Highlands into Vietnam's hub for breeding pigs and developing high-tech livestock farming models.

"As a company from the Netherlands, De Heus will continue to develop new value chains in the coming time to enhance quality and improve the lives of not only farmers and business owners, but also all Vietnamese consumers," shared Mr. Johan van den Ban. "This also affirms our commitment to elevating the animal protein value chain in Vietnam to a new level, contributing to bringing clean, safe, and affordable food closer to consumers."
