De Heus – Hung Nhon propose expanding the high-tech agricultural value chain in Dak Lak

Dak Lak, July 31, 2026 – At the headquarters of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee, Hung Nhon and De Heus held a working session with the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee to discuss directions for developing a high-tech agricultural value chain and expanding investment cooperation in the province. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Do Huu Huy, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee. Also attending were representatives of the Provincial People’s Committee Office; leaders of provincial departments and agencies; and representatives of communes across Dak Lak Province.

Representing the businesses were Mr. Johan van den Ban, CEO of De Heus Vietnam & Asia; Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon; together with senior executives of both companies and representatives of relevant units.

As Dak Lak advances its agricultural development toward modernization, high-tech application and greater production value, the province has an opportunity to establish a large-scale high-tech agricultural value chain, with De Heus and Hung Nhon proposing coordinated investments spanning raw material areas, genetics, animal feed, high-tech livestock farming and processing.

The proposal was presented during the working session between the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee and senior leaders of De Heus and Hung Nhon, chaired by Mr. Do Huu Huy, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, with the participation of leaders from relevant departments, agencies and local authorities. If implemented, the proposed investment chain would not only strengthen the production capacity of the livestock sector, but also create new momentum for the development of raw material areas, increase the value of agricultural products, generate employment and gradually position Dak Lak as a high-tech agricultural hub in the Central Highlands. 

Building on the successful operation of a nearly VND 1 trillion project

The proposed expansion builds on the successful operation of the DHN Dak Lak High-tech Livestock Complex in Ea M’Droh Commune. Covering nearly 50 hectares with a total investment of nearly VND 1 trillion, the project has been developed in accordance with international standards, with a scale of 2,500 great-grandparent breeding pigs, 9,000 grandparent breeding pigs per cycle and 21,000 market hogs per cycle.

In addition to providing stable employment for more than 100 local workers, the project supplies high-quality breeding stock, promotes the transfer of modern livestock farming techniques and has gradually contributed to the establishment of an integrated production chain in the province.

According to representatives of De Heus and Hung Nhon, these initial achievements provide an important foundation for further large-scale investment, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Dak Lak’s agricultural sector in the new development phase.

Three pillars for an integrated value chain

Under the proposal by De Heus and Hung Nhon, the new investment chain in Dak Lak would be developed around three key pillars.

Expanding the high-tech livestock farming system

De Heus and Hung Nhon propose studying the development of the DHN Dak Lak 2 High-tech Livestock Complex, with an estimated total investment of approximately VND 1 trillion and a planned capacity of 2,500 great-grandparent breeding pigs.

The project is expected to be implemented during the 2027–2029 period, with priority given to surveying potential locations in Ea Sup, Buon Don, Ea Wer and Ea M’Droh communes. Upon completion, the livestock projects in Dak Lak are expected to supply approximately 50,000 parent-stock pigs annually, meeting the demand for high-quality breeding stock across the Central Highlands and Central Vietnam.

Increasing annual raw material output to 300,000 tonnes

Alongside livestock development, the two companies are pursuing a strategy to establish large-scale raw material areas. De Heus and Hung Nhon currently source approximately 100,000 tonnes of corn annually through their linked production network in Dak Lak.

The two companies aim to increase this volume to 300,000 tonnes per year through partnerships with local farmers, cooperatives and businesses. Developing these raw material areas will not only provide stable market access for producers but also secure supplies for animal feed production, reduce dependence on imports, enhance the value of local agricultural products and improve farmers’ incomes.

Completing the value chain with a raw material processing and animal feed production complex

To further complete the integrated agricultural value chain, De Heus and Hung Nhon propose studying investment in a raw material processing and animal feed production complex comprising a corn drying facility and a livestock and poultry feed plant. The complex would be developed in connection with local raw material areas, creating an integrated link from production and processing to livestock farming. Within this ecosystem, raw material areas would supply inputs to the animal feed plant; the plant would in turn serve the high-tech livestock farming system; while breeding stock would be developed in accordance with international standards. The entire chain would operate under strict biosecurity requirements, traceability, circular economy principles and emissions-reduction practices, with the aim of enhancing competitiveness and supporting sustainable development.

Mr. Johan van den Ban, CEO of De Heus Vietnam & Asia, shared: “We aspire to work with Dak Lak to develop a high-tech agricultural ecosystem based on an integrated value chain connecting raw material areas, animal feed production, livestock farming and processing. When all links in the chain are closely integrated, businesses can secure their raw material supplies, farmers gain stable market access, the province can increase the value of its agricultural products, and the local agricultural sector can gradually participate more deeply in domestic and international supply chains.”

More than individual investment projects

According to Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon, the objective of Hung Nhon and De Heus is to make structured, long-term investments that establish a high-tech agricultural ecosystem aligned with the strengths of each locality.

Each project is designed not only to generate economic value but also to facilitate technology transfer, strengthen production capacity, enhance linkages with farmers and create momentum for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.

Mr. Vu Manh Hung emphasized: “When the value chain is developed in an integrated manner, businesses will be able to secure raw material supplies, farmers will have stable market access, the province will attract additional investment and create more jobs, while gradually developing disease-free livestock production zones. This will provide an important foundation for Dak Lak to participate more deeply in domestic and international agricultural value chains.”

The province accompanies investors

At the meeting, De Heus and Hung Nhon requested that the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee support the identification of locations consistent with provincial planning, provide guidance on investment procedures and facilitate connections with local authorities for the development of raw material areas. The two companies also expressed their hope that the province would continue to support connections with farmers, cooperatives and local businesses to establish sustainable partnerships between enterprises and producers.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Do Huu Huy, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, affirmed that the province prioritizes attracting livestock projects based on an integrated model linking raw material areas, animal feed production, slaughtering and deep processing to increase the value generated by the agricultural sector. With its land resources and favorable natural conditions, Dak Lak has significant potential to develop large-scale raw material areas serving integrated production chains. The province committed to creating favorable conditions and assigned relevant departments and agencies to coordinate with the businesses in studying and finalizing investment proposals in accordance with regulations. Dak Lak also expects capable enterprises such as Hung Nhon and De Heus to continue expanding their investments, contributing to the development of modern and sustainable agricultural value chains across the province.

A new growth driver for agriculture in the Central Highlands

The working session laid the groundwork for De Heus and Hung Nhon to continue conducting surveys, refining their investment proposals and coordinating with Dak Lak Province during the implementation process.

If realized, the proposed project chain would provide additional resources for the development of the province’s agricultural economy, promote value-chain-based production linkages, strengthen processing capacity and improve the competitiveness of agricultural products. At the same time, it would contribute to Dak Lak’s ambition of becoming a high-tech agricultural and agricultural processing hub in the Central Highlands.

The De Heus – Hung Nhon value chain has been established and developed in Vietnam for nearly 20 years based on an integrated model encompassing raw material areas – genetics – animal feed – livestock farming – processing – distribution and export.

The value chain is built on cooperation with leading international companies including De Heus (the Netherlands), Bel Gà (Belgium), Big Dutchman (Germany), Olmix (France) and Boehringer Ingelheim (Germany). The projects are developed in line with international standards for biosecurity, traceability, circular economy practices and sustainable development, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Vietnam’s livestock sector.

In Tay Ninh, the De Heus – Hung Nhon value chain is currently implementing 13 high-tech agricultural projects with a total investment of nearly VND 20 trillion. By 2036, the partnership aims to reach an annual scale of 200 million day-old chicks, 25 million export-oriented broilers and 10,000 great-grandparent breeding pigs, with expected annual revenue of approximately USD 2 billion.
