Comprehensive, multi-sectoral cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands

Cooperation to Develop High-Tech Agriculture and Open Markets

On June 10, the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD), led by Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, began a working trip to the Netherlands, aiming to strengthen strategic partnership relations, promote technology transfer, and seek opportunities for sustainable development in the agricultural sector between the two countries.

As part of the trip, the delegation held talks with Dutch Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Jean Rummeni. On this occasion, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation directions in high-tech agriculture, supply chain management, and sustainable development.

At the Vietnam – Netherlands Agricultural Cooperation, Investment Promotion, and Agri-trade Seminar, the delegation actively connected with Dutch businesses, associations, and investors, aiming to expand trade opportunities and access new technologies.

Participating in GreenTech Amsterdam 2025 – a leading event in agricultural technology, the MARD delegation met with many partners to explore advanced solutions. At the exhibition, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien worked with Saudi Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Abdulaziz Almalik to promote cooperation in precision agriculture research and production.

The delegation concluded the working trip with a courtesy visit to Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam and a friendly meeting with diplomatic staff and the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands.

"This working trip not only promotes international cooperation in agriculture but also affirms Vietnam’s active role on the global agricultural map. At the same time, it is an opportunity for parties to exchange experiences, expand connections, and move towards steady progress in sustainable agricultural development," assessed Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien.

Promoting Joint Research in Precision Agriculture and Agricultural By-Product Reuse

According to Deputy Minister Tien, Vietnam and the Netherlands have long had a Strategic Partnership on climate change adaptation and water management, and a Strategic Partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security.

The Netherlands has always been one of the world’s leading countries in agricultural technology and sustainable food production, with innovative solutions that increase productivity and reduce environmental impacts.

As for Vietnam, a country with abundant potential in agriculture, it can leverage these technologies to add value and move towards sustainable exports.

In 2024, the two countries celebrated 5 years of implementing the Comprehensive Partnership Framework (2019–2024), and 10 years of establishing the Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014–2024).

The year 2025 marks 15 years since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management (2010–2025).

On that basis, Vietnam proposed a cooperation strategy between MARD and the Netherlands in agriculture and environment for the 2025–2035 period.

In which, the two sides will promote joint research projects on precision agriculture and the development of climate-resilient plant and animal varieties, with active participation from research institutes and enterprises of both countries.

Regarding circular agriculture and sustainable value chains, MARD hopes the Netherlands will cooperate in developing projects on agricultural by-product reuse and bioenergy.

Building a stable value chain from farm to table will help reduce post-harvest losses, optimize resource use, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

DHN Project: A Symbol of Vietnam – Netherlands Cooperation

Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon Group, was honored to accompany Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien on this working trip.

Mr. Hung shared: “Cooperating with the Netherlands not only allows Vietnam’s agriculture sector to access world-leading technologies but also opens up opportunities for sustainable development through the construction of efficient value chains."

"This is an important foundation to improve production quality, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to the overall development of the sector.”

One of the most notable examples of this effective cooperation is the DHN project series jointly implemented by Hung Nhon Group and De Heus (Netherlands).

DHN projects such as DHN Gia Lai, DHN Dak Lak, DHN Lam Dong, DHN Tay Ninh... are high-tech livestock farming models designed to meet Global G.A.P and ISO standards.

The livestock housing systems are equipped with modern facilities from leading corporations in the poultry industry.

The projects integrate advanced technologies in all stages—from farm management and disease control to production optimization—while applying green technologies to minimize environmental impact, conserve resources, and ensure animal welfare, thereby creating a sustainable livestock ecosystem.

These projects align with the green economy model and Vietnam Government’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050.

The working trip of the MARD delegation not only strengthened cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands but also opened up new opportunities for Vietnam to access high-tech solutions, enhance agricultural value, and promote sustainable development.

At the same time, the trip reaffirmed Vietnam's active role on the global agricultural map, aiming toward green and sustainable development in the future.

With the achievements from strategic cooperation, Vietnam expects to continue receiving support from the Netherlands in areas such as livestock, crop production, and water management.

These efforts not only raise the position of Vietnamese agriculture but also contribute to environmental protection, food security, and sustainable socio-economic development.
