Vietnam's Largest Private Economic Dialogue Forum Gathers High-Level Leaders and Businesses
The Vietnam Private Economic Forum 2019, a premier national and international event, focused on crucial economic issues, particularly solutions for the development of the private sector.
The forum's plenary session, which opened at 2:00 PM on May 2, was a major dialogue attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (Head of the Central Economic Commission), Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien, Madam Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh (Member of the Central Party Committee and Vice President), nearly 50 members of the Central Party Committee (including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and provincial leaders). Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Hoang Trung Hai, Secretary of Hanoi, attended as special guests.
Representing the business community were associations, industry groups, and prominent large enterprises such as Vietjet Air, VinFast, and TH Group, alongside 2,500 other businesses. This provided a crucial platform for the private economic sector to present recommendations and engage in direct dialogue with policymakers, proposing initiatives to refine mechanisms and boost the sector's contributions. Discussions centered on critical areas including Tourism, Agriculture, Digital Economy, and unlocking medium- to long-term capital flows for economic development. The initiatives discussed and synthesized originated from six specialized workshops held earlier that morning within the forum's framework.
Addressing Key Economic Challenges and Future Directions
Based on the recommendations and proposals from the private sector, representatives from the government and central ministries engaged in discussions, providing feedback on each suggestion. A wide range of difficulties and obstacles across various economic sectors were thoroughly analyzed, aiming to provide solutions for pressing issues such as developing a national strategy for tourism, standardizing agricultural, forestry, and fisheries value chains, fostering supporting industries, and balancing banking and non-banking institutions.
The discussion session also welcomed contributions from numerous international organizations, foreign associations and businesses, and representatives from localities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang.
The final high-level dialogue session was set to address major, pivotal issues concerning institutional improvement, particularly laws related to the development of the private economy.
The Vietnam Private Economic Forum 2019 was co-chaired by the Government and the Central Economic Commission. It was organized in collaboration with the Private Economic Development Research Board (Board IV), VnExpress online newspaper, and IEC Group.
