Gia Lai: Over 1 Trillion VND Invested in High-Tech Livestock Complex

Gia Lai to Host Major High-Tech Livestock Project Aiming for Disease-Free Zone

Gia Lai, Vietnam – Mr. Gabor Fluit, CEO of De Heus Asia, and Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman and CEO of Hung Nhon Group, presented the "DHN Gia Lai High-Tech Livestock Application Zone" project to Gia Lai provincial leaders. This significant investment by De Heus Group and Hung Nhon Group aims to establish a cutting-edge livestock complex in the province.

The two corporations will invest in and build a high-tech livestock zone in Gia Lai province, focusing on producing agricultural products through a closed-loop value chain. This comprehensive chain will include:

• Selection and production of breeding pigs.
• Pig slaughtering.
• Production of organic animal feed.
• Production of organic fertilizers.
• Trading of top-quality Vietnamese livestock products, with an orientation towards export to Southeast Asia.

This approach promises superior economic efficiency compared to traditional methods, ensuring food safety and hygiene and environmental friendliness in accordance with both Vietnamese and international standards. A key objective is also to establish a pilot "disease-free zone" in the region.

Project Scope and Advanced Technology

The project will utilize between 50 and 100 hectares of land. This includes a 45-50 hectare farm for 2,500 great-grandparent pigs, which will be meticulously selected and directly imported from the Netherlands. The remaining area will be allocated for a pork slaughterhouse and organic fertilizer production.

Additional facilities will include administrative and support service areas; organic farming and green spaces; transportation and technical infrastructure; and a high-quality, export-standard fruit collection, purchasing, preservation, and packaging zone.

The total estimated investment for this project is 1,030 billion VND.

The project will embed Industry 4.0 technology throughout its livestock processes. The entire farming operation will leverage 100% high-tech, modern, and automated systems adhering to international standards. SKIOLD, a leading Danish group with over 140 years of experience in developing and manufacturing machinery, will provide consultation and advanced technological equipment. This will ensure robust quality control, optimized livestock performance, reduced production costs, and high economic efficiency.

Beyond economic benefits, a notable innovation is the grid-connected solar power system, which will supply 30% of the complex's electricity. This clean energy source is expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to traditional power, enhancing the environmental value of the broiler chicken products.

Furthermore, the project will create 150 local jobs, fostering a skilled workforce in modern livestock technology and contributing to the province's overall economic development. It will implement environmentally friendly and energy-saving measures in livestock farming and slaughter, meeting Vietnamese technical standards and international industry norms.

Expanding Footprint Across the Central Highlands

The year 2020 continues to mark significant collaborations between De Heus and Hung Nhon in agriculture, with operational facilities such as the Bien Dong DHS pig slaughterhouse in Nam Dinh and the Green Chicken European-standard poultry slaughterhouse in Hanoi.

In the Central Highlands, De Heus and Hung Nhon signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee in May 2019 to invest in the "DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Complex." This project has received investment approval and is proceeding as planned, with clean, high-quality, international-standard pig breeding stock expected to be supplied to the Vietnamese market by late 2021.

Over the next 5-10 years, De Heus Group and Hung Nhon Group will continue to collaborate, expanding and developing a network of large-scale great-grandparent pig breeding projects and disease-free zones across all five provinces of the Central Highlands. Following the completion of the Gia Lai project, further initiatives are planned for Dak Nong, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong. This expansion aims to increase their total capacity to between 10,000 and 15,000 great-grandparent breeding pigs and between 100,000 and 120,000 grandparent breeding pigs.

Upon completion, this chain of projects will play a pivotal role in establishing the Central Highlands as a leading center for pig breeding stock supply and the development of high-tech livestock models in Southeast Asia.
