The DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Complex project is reported to cover an area of approximately 200 hectares, with a total investment capital of 66 million USD (equivalent to about 1,500 billion VND). The project's implementation schedule runs from Q3 2019 to Q4 2025.
Dak Lak Set to Host 1,500 Billion VND High-Tech Pig Breeding Complex: A Future Model for Biosecurity
Dak Lak province is embarking on a transformative agricultural journey with the DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Complex, a substantial 1,500 billion VND (equivalent to 66 million USD) investment. This 200-hectare project, currently underway from Q3 2019 to Q4 2025, aims to establish a cutting-edge pig breeding and processing hub.
The complex is strategically divided into several key areas:
- Pig Breeding Farms (approx. 80 ha): This core component will house approximately 2,400 great-grandparent (GGP) breeding pigs, directly selected and imported from the Netherlands. These farms are designed to supply high-quality, disease-free genetic stock to the Central Highlands, Southern Vietnam, and eventually, the entire Southeast Asian region. The investment for this breeding center alone is 22 million USD (500 billion VND).
- Chicken Breeding Farms (approx. 30 ha): Dedicated to poultry breeding.
- Pig Slaughterhouse and Organic Fertilizer Plant (approx. 15 ha): This facility will integrate slaughtering operations with the production of organic fertilizer, promoting a circular economy model.
- Management and Support Services Area (approx. 20 ha): Housing administrative and essential support functions.
- Organic Farming and Green Space Area (approx. 30 ha): For sustainable cultivation and environmental preservation.
- Traffic and Technical Infrastructure (approx. 25 ha): Supporting logistics and operations.
Driving Post-ASF Recovery and Sustainable Practices
Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon Group, emphasized that a primary goal of the project is to meet the surging demand for high-quality grandparent (GP), parent (PS), and commercial breeding pigs following the African Swine Fever (ASF) epidemic. By providing GGP and GP pigs with rigorously controlled breeding processes, superior genetics, and adherence to strict standards for feed, vaccination, and technical procedures, the project will significantly enhance the efficiency of the livestock sector, generate clean agricultural products, and contribute to the establishment of disease-free zones.
The entire breeding process within the complex will leverage Industry 4.0 technology, ensuring precise quality control, optimizing breeding performance, and maximizing economic returns. Furthermore, the project incorporates a grid-connected solar power system, utilizing 30% clean energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby elevating the environmental value of the breeding pig products and the final pork.
Socio-Economic Impact and Provincial Commitment
Beyond its economic objectives, the DHN Dak Lak complex is set to create between 150-200 job opportunities for ethnic minority communities in Dak Lak province. It will also foster the development of a skilled workforce in modern livestock farming, contributing to the province's overall economic growth.
Mr. Vu Manh Hung expressed his desire for Dak Lak province to provide favorable land allocation, legal frameworks, and specific support policies to expedite the completion of the complex. The overarching aim is to establish Dak Lak as a leading province in high-tech agricultural application, a reliable source of high-quality breeding pigs post-ASF, and potentially, Vietnam's first pilot disease-free zone.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged the province's significant potential for agricultural development, particularly its abundant land resources. He recognized the current difficulties facing the national livestock industry, including the complex ASF situation and declining live hog prices, which have also impacted Dak Lak.
Chairman Nghi stated that the investment in the DHN High-Tech Agricultural Complex aligns perfectly with the province's agricultural economic development strategy, promising to drive sustainable growth in the local livestock sector. He committed that Dak Lak province will create all necessary conditions for Hung Nhon Group and De Heus to invest in the region, expressing his hope for timely project implementation and completion.
