De Heus and Hung Nhon Group Launch Major High-Tech Agricultural Complex in Dak Lak
Dak Lak, Vietnam – A significant joint venture between the Netherlands' De Heus Group and Vietnam's Hung Nhon Group is set to transform the agricultural landscape of Dak Lak province. The two giants have established DHN Dak Lak High-Yield Pig Breeding Development Joint Stock Company to execute the DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Complex Project.
This ambitious complex aims to become a leading center for high-tech livestock farming, operating a closed-loop value chain. This comprehensive approach includes:
- Selection and production of breeding pigs and chickens.
- Pig slaughtering.
- Organic animal feed production.
- Organic fertilizer production.
- Trading of top-quality Vietnamese livestock products, with an orientation towards export to Southeast Asia.
All operations will adhere to stringent Vietnamese and international standards for food safety and environmental friendliness.
Project Scope and Investment
The project spans approximately 200 hectares and involves a total investment of 66 million USD (equivalent to about 1,500 billion VND). Its implementation commenced in Q3 2019 and is slated for completion by Q4 2025.
The complex is structured with distinct zones:
- Livestock Breeding Farms (80 ha): This will house 2,400 great-grandparent (GGP) breeding pigs, meticulously selected and imported directly from the Netherlands.
- Breeder Chicken Farms (30 ha).
- Pig Slaughterhouse and Organic Fertilizer Production Plant (15 ha).
- Operations and Support Services Area (20 ha).
- Organic Cultivation and Green Space Area (30 ha).
- Traffic and Technical Infrastructure (25 ha).
Economic, Environmental, and Social Impact
Upon operation, the project will supply high-quality GGP and grandparent (GP) breeding pigs within the province, meeting the surging demand for both breeding and commercial pigs. This will significantly boost the efficiency of the livestock sector, provide clean agricultural products to the market, and contribute to establishing disease-free zones. The entire breeding process will integrate Industry 4.0 technology for robust quality control and optimized economic efficiency.
A notable feature of this project is the integration of a grid-connected solar power system, utilizing 30% clean energy. This initiative will substantially reduce CO2 emissions compared to traditional power sources, enhancing the environmental value of the produced livestock. Beyond its environmental benefits, the project is also set to create between 250 and 300 jobs for ethnic minority communities in the province, while also training a skilled local workforce in modern livestock technology.
Government Support and Future Outlook
Mr. Tran Kim Long, Director of the International Cooperation Department at MARD, praised the collaboration, calling it a significant partnership given the current livestock landscape and a testament to the ongoing cooperation between the Dutch government and MARD. He expressed hope that the project, leveraging Dak Lak's livestock potential and the extensive experience of both groups, will quickly become operational and usher in a new era for the livestock industry. He also urged Dak Lak province to facilitate the partners in meeting the project timeline.
On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi, Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, emphasized Dak Lak's vast potential for livestock development, particularly its extensive land resources. He highlighted that high-tech agricultural development is a key strategic direction for the province's agricultural economic restructuring, with a particular need for advanced breeding stock and high-tech livestock farming. He affirmed that the Dak Lak government would create all favorable conditions for De Heus and Hung Nhon to invest and expressed the province's desire for the project to commence operations swiftly.
The working session concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, De Heus Group, and Hung Nhon Group for the DHN Dak Lak High-Tech Agricultural Complex Project. Additionally, Hung Nhon Joint Stock Company (Dong Phu Fertilizer Plant) and the Department of Plant Protection (MARD) signed a cooperation plan to implement an organic fertilizer development program.
